Spring and summer storms roll through the Miami Valley every year, bringing hail and straight-line winds that can damage a roof in minutes. The tricky part is that storm damage often can’t be seen from the ground. Bruised shingles, cracked mats and lifted tabs may not leak right away, but they shorten your roof’s life and can lead to leaks months later. Most homeowner’s policies also set a time limit for reporting storm damage, so it pays to get your roof checked soon after a storm.
Signs Your Home Has Storm Damage
- Dents on gutters, downspouts, vents, mailboxes or your car after hail
- Shingle granules collecting in gutters or at the bottom of downspouts
- Missing, lifted or creased shingles after high winds
- Cracked, chipped or holed vinyl siding
- New water stains on ceilings or in the attic
- Neighbors getting new roofs after the same storm
How the Storm Claim Process Works With Freedom
- Free storm inspection. We inspect your roof, gutters, siding and soft metals, and photograph everything. If there’s no real storm damage, we’ll tell you so.
- You file the claim. If there’s damage, you contact your insurance company to open a claim. We’ll explain what to expect.
- Adjuster inspection. Your insurer sends an adjuster. We meet them on site and walk them through the damage we documented, so nothing gets missed.
- Review the scope. Once the claim is decided, we go over your insurer’s paperwork with you and answer your questions.
- Restoration. You choose materials and colors, and our crew completes the work. Your project manager keeps you updated through the final walkthrough and cleanup.
Cole did an outstanding job inspecting our roof, finding hail and wind damage. He was present when our insurance company inspected the roof and approved our claim.

Why Work With a Team That Knows Insurance
Before starting Freedom in 2019, members of our team worked as insurance adjusters, inspection techs and crew members. We know how adjusters inspect a roof, what documentation they look for, and how a claim scope is written. That helps the process go smoothly for you.
What we will never do: waive, “cover” or absorb your deductible. Paying your deductible is your responsibility under your policy, and any contractor who offers to skip it is asking you to take part in insurance fraud. We’ll always be straight with you about what your policy pays and what you owe.
What a Storm Claim Can Cover
Depending on your policy and your insurer’s findings, a storm claim may cover:
- Roof replacement or roof repair
- Gutters and downspouts dented by hail
- Siding cracked or holed by hail or wind
- Vents, flashing and other roof components
If your claim doesn’t cover everything you want done, ask about our financing options.
Storm Damage Service Areas
We inspect and restore storm-damaged homes across the Miami Valley, including Dayton, Springfield, Huber Heights, Troy, Tipp City, Beavercreek, Fairborn, Vandalia and New Carlisle.
Storm Damage & Insurance FAQ
Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Many homeowners start with a free roofer inspection, so they know whether there’s real storm damage before opening a claim. Either way, report damage promptly. Most policies have deadlines for storm claims.
Will filing a claim raise my rates?
That depends on your insurer and policy. Storm claims are generally treated differently from at-fault claims, but your agent is the best person to answer this for your situation.
What if my claim is denied?
We’ll go over the decision with you and explain your options. If repairs are still needed, we’ll give you an honest price, and financing is available.
Do I have to pay my deductible?
Yes. Your deductible is part of your insurance contract. Reputable contractors don’t waive it, and we don’t either.
How fast can you inspect after a storm?
Call (937) 350-7006. We schedule storm inspections as quickly as possible, and our team is available Monday–Friday 8–6 and Saturday 9–3.
